As a child I watched Elizabeth Taylor from the back seat of our family car with my siblings, my parents in the front seat of the local drive-in theatre. We muched hot dogs, sipped cokes and watched the greatest female movie icon of all time as she lit up the screen in dozens of famous film classics of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s:

Elizabeth Taylor: The Biggest Movie Star Ever?

1970 The Only Game in Town
1968 Secret Ceremony
Boom
1967 The Comedians
Reflections in a Golden Eye
Doctor Faustus
1966 The Taming of the Shrew
Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
1965 The Sandpiper
1963 The V.I.P.’s
Cleopatra
1960 Butterfield 8
1959 Suddenly, Last Summer
1958 Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
1957 Raintree County
1956 Giant
(Visit our Tribute to Giant)
1954 The Last Time I Saw Paris
Beau Brummell

1953 The Girl Who Had Everything
1952 Ivanhoe
Love is Better Than Ever
1951 A Place in the Sun

1950 Father of the Bride
The Big Hangover

My mother adored and emulated Liz Taylor in her hair, dress, and make-up. Every southern woman who came of age in the 1950s wanted to BE Elizabeth Taylor. We all knew as kids that Elizabeth Taylor had married many times, as it was always the talk of any family get together when the conversation turned to film stars and favorite actresses. I’m sad and thoughtful to know Elizabeth has passed. I’m sure she is storming the gates of Heaven in style, and turning heads there just as she did on earth. Rest in peace Ms. Taylor. You were beloved, respected, admired and greatly adored by millions of fans throughout your long and strident career. May your journey of grace, beauty and selfless giving never end in God’s Creation.
